The first Far Eastern Forum “FEFD-2020,” which was held for two days in an online format, has come to an end. Representatives from all the regions of the Russian Far East took part.

One of the key discussion platforms was a round table with the participation of Yury Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District; Alexei Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic; and heads of the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District.

In the course of a multifaceted discussion, participants discussed the implementation of federal programs, the issue of the investment appeal of the Far Eastern Federal District, the problems of transport infrastructure, quality of life and migration outflows, and the pandemic coronavirus infection.

Speaking about the situation with the migration outflow from the Far Eastern Federal District, Yuri Trutnev noted that this indicator has decreased fourfold since 2013. In 2019, the number of those who left was 10.5 thousand people, while in 2013 – 45 thousand people.

The ambassador added that in order to completely stop the outflow of population from the Far East, it is necessary, first of all, to create jobs, as well as improve living conditions in the region: improve the quality of health care and education, improve the cities and deal with the improvement of roads.

“The climate factor cannot be fixed,” Trutnev lamented.

Earlier, Vostokgosplan experts reported that in the first six months of 2020, fewer people left the Far East than in previous years.

According to analysts, the outflow has fallen by more than half.

From January to July, 1,657 people left the Far Eastern Federal District. At the same time, during the same period last year, the migration decline was 4,355 people.
